Hair is like skin. What they really need depends above all on your hair type. However, there are certain things that hair and the scalp generally don't like at all and things that your hair will thank you for with a healthy shine - at least if you regularly follow our Haircare tips for healthy hair. Of course, there will be the famous bad hair day, but with the right Haircare the good hair days will outweigh the bad. But let's first take a look at the structure of the hair before we look at the dos and don'ts of Haircare .
1. Haircare - the structure of the hair
Hair consists of a hair shaft and a root. The visible part is the hair shaft, which we refer to as our hair. Each hair consists of three layers: Cuticle, cortex and medulla.
The outermost layer, cuticle or dandruff layer, consists of dead cells. Healthy hair with an intact cuticle shines beautifully in the light because the horny platelets lie flat, similar to a pine cone. When light falls on the hair, it reflects the cuticle and the hair shines. If the cuticle layer is rough, the hair looks dull, knots quickly and split ends are often visible.
The second layer, the fiber layer (cortex), makes up the largest part of the hair. It consists of fine keratin fibers. A type of cement substance connects the fibers and makes them elastic and tear-resistant. This layer plays a decisive role in chemical treatments such as bleaching or perming. Inside is the medulla, also known as the medullary canal. This layer plays no role for Haircare .
A good Haircare is worthwhile, because once the cuticle layer has been damaged, anti-split products can only repair the protruding horny plates until the next hair wash. Unfortunately, the only remedy for split ends is a visit to the hairdresser. With our Haircare tips for healthy hair, you can easily prevent dryness and split ends.
2. Haircare - Tip 1: Wash your hair properly
For many people, washing their hair is part of their daily care routine. But how often should you wash your hair? It is usually enough to wash your hair every two to three days - especially if your scalp and hair are very dry. If your hair is greasy quickly, you can wash it daily with a mild shampoo if you only feel comfortable with fresh and fluffy hair.
But: The sebum from the sebaceous glands in the scalp fulfils an important function. It covers the skin like a delicate protective film, preventing the penetration of pathogens and harmful substances. It also keeps the scalp and hair supple. Washing your hair too often with shampoos containing highly degreasing surfactants or other potentially irritating ingredients such as fragrances or chemical preservatives can disrupt the delicate protective film and unbalance the scalp.
I recommend different shampoos depending on your hair needs. If you have flat, limp, quickly greasy hair, the volume shampoo and balances the sebum production of your scalp.
For dry hair, or especially with a wavy or curly texture, I can recommend the care shampoo to your heart. It moisturizes your hair and makes it more resistant.
For sensitive scalps, or even if you prefer your Haircare without fragrance, the Sensitive shampoo is the right product for you. It is mild, odorless and works calming while gently caring for your hair and scalp.
Here's how to massage in shampoo correctly:
shampoo Spread in the palms of your hands and apply.
Gently massage shampoo into the scalp using circular movements. The gentle massage cleanses the hairline and scalp. At the same time, the microcirculation in the scalp is stimulated. This improves the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the cells.
Always try to massage in the direction of hair growth to avoid unnecessarily roughening the cuticle.
It is usually sufficient to shampoo just the scalp. The lengths and ends are sufficiently cleansed when rinsing. Unless, of course, you've been muddy, visited a Holi festival or left an oil treatment on overnight, in which case you should also wash the lengths and ends.
Avoid water that is too hot, as it degreases the skin and causes the hair to swell. Even if it takes some effort: lukewarm water is better for your hair and skin and your utility bills and the environment also benefit from the lower energy consumption.
3. Haircare -Tip 2: Use conditioner and mask for healthy hair
For extra shine and suppleness, finish off Haircare with a hair mask and conditioner. And in case you're wondering whether I've reversed the order here: Nope! The hair mask actually comes before the conditioner as it provides the hair with nutrients and the conditioner seals it afterwards.
Do you know our Haircare already? We have developed three lines that cater specifically to your hair needs. All consist of a shampoo, a conditioner and a hair mask. We have also developed two scalp tonics as a special treatment.
4. Haircare - Tip 3: Avoid heat
Whether it's a hairdryer, straightener, curling iron or hot water that's too hot - hair and scalp don't like heat. Let your hair air dry if possible. If you can't do without a hairdryer or other hair styling tools, don't switch the appliance to the hottest setting and make sure you never expose your hair to heat for too long. Always hold the hairdryer in the direction of hair growth so that the cuticle layer does not stand up and always keep the air moving.
5. Haircare - Tip 4: the right hair care products for healthy hair
Just like skin care, Haircare should be tailored to individual needs. Can you overdo your hair Moisturize? Yes! In any case, you can weigh it down with hair care products that are too rich. Here is a brief overview of hair and scalp conditions and suitable hair care products.
