We are currently seeing what climate ignorance and land consolidation can do in many parts of Germany. With our donation of 6,000 euros to Aktion Deutschland hilft, we are trying to do our bit to support local people. If you like, you can help too. We have set up an uncomplicated donation function in our checkout for this purpose. Simply choose any amount you like and we will forward 100% of your donation to Aktion Deutschland hilft.
It's almost ironic that July 29 is Earth Overshoot Day. The day on which we have used up all the earth's natural resources that can be replenished within a year. This day is symbolic of our enormous demand for resources, the waste of these resources and the man-made climate change that goes hand in hand with this.
Suddenly it's so close, climate change.
We have known for some time that climate change will not happen sometime, somewhere - it is already here. HERE AND NOW. Even in Germany. We have been feeling the effects of extreme weather events such as storms, heat, drought, heavy rainfall and the flooding that often accompanies them for years. However, few of us could have imagined the catastrophic extent of the floods that hit North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate last week. Flooded towns, collapsed houses, ripped-apart roads, 175 people who lost their lives and many more who are still missing. Thousands of people have lost their homes and their livelihoods. We have only seen this kind of destruction due to natural disasters in other parts of the world such as Japan, Indonesia or the Caribbean.
When it comes to the climate crisis, people often talk about tipping points. These are decisive, critical thresholds in climate change. When these are reached, the climate can change abruptly and irreversibly - with unforeseeable consequences. The six defined tipping elements include thawing permafrost soils, deforestation and fires in primeval forests and the melting of Arctic sea ice. We have already passed some of these six climate tipping points. Nobody knows when the remaining tipping points will be reached - which is why we must prevent them.
However, there are not only tipping points for the climate, but also in our society. After a disaster like last week, the question arises: have we now reached a social tipping point? Will the experience of the flood disaster be a wake-up call to finally take climate change as seriously as it needs to be taken in this country? Crises are always a turning point and show us what is really important to us. It is often only then that we begin to act to Protect exactly what means so much to us.
For us at JUNGLÜCK , one thing is clear: we want to help. On the one hand, acutely with our donation to "Aktion Deutschland hilft" and also through our business activities, where sustainability is our top priority.
Update: We are incredibly happy about the success of the campaign! For a limited period of time, a donation amount could be selected when checking out during the order process. Our customers donated a total of €4,771.79. Together with our share of €6,000, we hope to raise a total of €4,771.79 together with "Aktion Deutschland hilft" to help those affected by the flood disaster to rebuild their lives and overcome this traumatic time. The organization is providing solar-powered street lighting and equipment to dry, tidy and clean the buildings. Helpers are distributing food, water, hygiene products and lighting, clearing rubble and planning the reconstruction of facilities and houses. People are being given tetanus vaccinations to prevent illness. Vacation camps are organized for children to give them some fun and security. Homeless people and senior citizens are cared for, psychosocial counseling is offered and everything that can be done is done. We are therefore all the more pleased that the donation we have collected together is making a real difference for the local people. And for that we would simply like to say THANK YOU!
