Pigment spots are caused by years of localized accumulation of melanin, so it takes longer for the excess pigment to disappear. Pimple marks are usually caused by an inflammation-induced excess of melanin, which is the result of acute impurities. As a rule, less pigment has accumulated as a result than with pigment spots, which is why they fade more quickly.
