The right eye care for wrinkles, dark circles and dry skin

by Lena Severin

Why does the skin around the eyes actually need special care?

Or to put it another way: do the eyes need any special care at all? We are often asked this question. And our answer is yes, because the needs and structure of the skin here are simply somewhat different. It is much thinner than the rest of the face, 0.5 mm to be precise. This is in comparison to 1.75-2.5 mm on the face as a whole. The eye area is also slightly different in terms of its structure, as the skin here has less subcutaneous fatty tissue and fewer sebaceous and sweat glands, which means it dries out more quickly and loses elasticity.

Another aspect that we tend to ignore because it comes as naturally to us as breathing is blinking. This causes the thin skin surrounding our eyes to move quite a bit. In addition, not only the eyes themselves, but also the surrounding fine skin is strained by screen work, air-conditioned or heated rooms and lack of sleep. Of course, we can only influence our working environment to a limited extent. I, too, am writing this article on my laptop, looking at the square screen five days a week. Not to mention the unimaginable sacrifice of all those nights spent talking for far too long, dancing our feet off or simply watching movies until the sun rises again... after all, life is meant to be enjoyed.

Nevertheless, our skin needs the care it deserves. And for the eye area, this means paying a little more attention to the care we choose. And that brings me to the next question we are often asked:

Which eye care is the best?

Hyaluronic Acid Eye Gel
10 ml

Cools, nourishes and moisturizes your eye area

29,90 €

incl. VAT, plus shipping

2.990,00 € / 1l

Eye Cream
20 ml

Provides plenty of moisture and makes your eye area glow

39,90 €

incl. VAT, plus shipping

1.995,00 € / 1l

As always, the same applies here: It all depends on the needs of your skin. We have a Eye Cream and, more recently, a Hyaluronic Acid Eye Gel that provides comprehensive care for the eye area. The Eye Cream is particularly suitable for dry, flaky skin around the eyes or for anyone who simply wants rich care. The eye gel is much lighter and moisturizes the skin thanks to the hyaluronic acid it contains. Bonus effect: the metal ball gently massages the skin in the morning, which improves the drainage of lymphatic fluid. Incidentally, the de-puff effect works best when the eye gel is fresh from the fridge. But which eye care is right for you? Let's take a closer look at Actives and what it can actually do for you:

OUR HYALURONIC ACID EYE GEL

For uncomplicated, pleasant application. Absorbs quickly and provides your skin Actives with moisture and radiance.

Eye gel for refreshment and a radiant look

Hyaluronic acid in eye gel: moisture & radiance

You may already be familiar with hyaluronic acid from our creams or our Hyaluron Concentrate. Hyaluronic acid already occurs naturally in our bodies, so it is not a foreign substance. You can imagine it as a network of molecular chains. The whole network works like a sponge by binding water and simply pulling it along on its way into the deep layers of the skin. And this is how hyaluronic acid works in skin care:

  • Provides intensive moisture and protects the skin from drying out
  • Reduces dryness lines and plumps up the skin from the inside
  • The moisture depot ensures better skin elasticity

Algae complex in eye gel: antioxidant power

The eye gel is not the first product in which we have used an algae extract. In our antioxidants ampoules contains Astaxanthin, also an active ingredient from a type of algae. At gel , we have chosen brown and red algae specifically for the eye area due to their many benefits. And this is what they can do for your skin in the eye gel:

  • help to lighten dark shadows under the eyes
  • Treat Decongestant and reduce visible bags under the eyes
  • can reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Treat soothes the skin

OUR EYE CREAM

Rich care that supplies your skin with nutrients and lipids. With ingredients that counteract tired eyes Treat.

Vitamin C in the Eye Cream: Goodbye shadows, hello alert gaze

Vitamin C is a popular ingredient in the eye care. You may know it from our Vitamin C serum or our ampoules, for those who are more experienced with active ingredients. Incidentally, serum is also suitable for sensitive skin , as we use a derivative (ascorbyl glucoside) that is only converted to the active Vitamin C in the skin itself with the help of an enzyme. And it is precisely this derivative that we also use in our Eye Cream . And this is exactly how it works:

  • Has an antioxidant effect and thus protects our collagen scaffold
  • Also supports the formation of skin-firming vitamin E
  • Gradually lightens dark shadows & pigmentation spots

Coffeine at gel and cream:

We all know that Coffeine is an indispensable pick-me-up for some people. "Nothing works before the first coffee" - are you one of those people? Welcome to the club. If not, then perhaps the effect of Coffeine in cosmetics will convince you. Incidentally, it is not the concentration of caffeine in the product that is important here, but the amount released Coffeine and the formulation. Some studies have tested and proven skin penetration as the key to its use in cosmetics. A particularly high Coffeine content will therefore not provide the same "kick" on the skin as a double espresso. Nevertheless, it has wonderful effects, especially in the eye care properties :

  • Coffeine Influences blood flow in the smallest blood vessels
  • Reduction of swelling of the tissue around the eyes
  • Reduces the formation of free radicals

10 tips for your eye care

1. a question of timing: ideally, start eye care in your mid-20s

eye care from your mid-20s? Exactly, because this is when the skin begins to age slowly: the enzyme responsible for collagen breakdown becomes increasingly active, while the building blocks (Ceramides & collagen) for a stable skin structure can no longer be produced as quickly. A process that is completely natural and which we certainly cannot stop. BUT we can specifically help the skin to resume its production rate and supply it with the nutrients and Actives that keep its structure healthy and stable. If we start here at an early stage and don't ignore the other tips, the skin will thank us.

2. Use eye care AM and PM

The same applies to eye care as to the rest of Skincare: it should be used AM and PM . Ideally after cleanser. If you use a facial oil such as argan, Jojoba Oil or Squalane , you can give your entire face a relaxing massage and gently apply the oil under the eyes pat in. Important here: The eye care should be applied before the oil. The layering principle works from light textures to rich textures. An oil is therefore the final step in the skincare routine (provided no sun cream is applied).

3. against puffy eyes in the morning: gentle tapping massage

Speaking of massage: you can help your lymph channels under the eyes in the morning (or also in between) with a tapping massage to drain the accumulated fluid. To do this, gently tap with your ring finger from the inner corner of the eye outwards and then in the same direction below the eyebrows. Three to four circles are enough to achieve a decongestant effect.

4. sun screen at any time of year: keep your eyes open when buying glasses!

If you've been following us for a while, you know: We never tire of talking about sun screen . It is simply the medium that is most important in skincare. And of course this also, or especially, applies to the delicate skin around the eyes. So: please wear sunglasses with decent UVA and UVB protection on your nose when the sun is shining. It really is worth investing a little more money here. Because many cheap glasses have no or only very low protection.

5. touch the eye area & eyes only gently

In everyday life, we like to touch our faces, which is difficult to suppress, but unfortunately always means new bacteria and germs for the skin. If we wipe our eyes a lot, rub them and really stretch the skin underneath, this is anything but good for the thin structure. Too much and, above all, too aggressive touching can cause the skin to sag more quickly. It is therefore better to touch them with kid gloves.

6. AM cooled eye gel apply

Cooled eye gel gently under the eye apply

If you have AM problems with puffy eyes, it helps if you store the eye gel in the fridge. This keeps the metal ball and the gel extra cool and helps the lymph channels to decongest. Roll the gel from the inside out. If you like, you can then apply it as explained in point 3 pat in.

7. diet for swollen eyes: what you should look out for

Alcohol, salty foods and foods with a high protein content impede lymph flow during the night, causing you to wake up in the morning with "puffy" eyes. Of course, it is difficult to avoid these foods completely, but if you take care to avoid them in the evening, eat them in moderation and leave enough time between eating and drinking and your bedtime, it will help to keep the lymph flow going better overnight.

8. wonder weapon sleep

One of the most common reasons for dark circles, wrinkles, shadows and the like is a lack of really good sleep. As described above, it is important that we leave a few hours between our last meal and bedtime. Ideally, the bedroom should be a little cooler and darkened. If you have to deal with volume, you can try white noise. After a while, the brain blocks out monotonous background noises such as rain, storms or noise and masks the sudden sounds of the urban environment. Also important: the pillow and mattress should match your sleeping style. Here too, it is worth spending a little more money and seeking individual advice. Because when we sleep well, it's not just our skin that will thank us, but also our entire body and our psyche.

9. the classic: drink water

I don't think I need to say much more about this. Water is the substance that supports the processes in our body and keeps everything going. Including, of course, the processes of our skin. So in addition to moisturizing from the outside, let's moisturize from the inside.

10. meditation for targeted relaxation of the facial muscles

If you like to take some time out, whether it's 5 minutes a week or every day, then meditation might be just the thing for you. Whether AM before you start your day or PM before you end it, in these minutes you can focus entirely on yourself, your breath and your passing thoughts. It is also important here that you keep reminding yourself to relax the small muscles in your face. Incidentally, this is also a great exercise to do at your desk. Keep closing in between your eyes briefly and consciously relax your whole face. I like to imagine a warm, golden stream of rain flowing over my head, forehead, eyebrows, corners and eyelids, over my cheeks and nose, on to my lips and over my chin to my neck. This brief visualization refreshes my mind, relaxes my skin and also takes away a little tiredness. Or maybe I'm just imagining the last point... Try it out now!
