A glimpse behind the scenes - our production

Marie Prötzsch

We visited our production facility

Every day we show you our products, describe the ingredients and modes of action and give you tips on how to use them. But what does it actually look like behind the scenes? This year, you asked for more insights into the production and sourcing of raw materials. That's why I'm taking you with me today and giving you a little insight into our production. More specifically, into the filling of the baby care products, which we visited last summer. Together with founder Benedikt and Supply Chain and Operations Manager Ann-Kathrin, we visited the machines and filling lines and were given a tour of the plant. Naturally under the strictest hygiene regulations - from protective suits and hair caps to face masks. Especially for me as a social media manager, it was super exciting to be behind the scenes and to follow how the product developers and production employees discuss technical vocabulary. I have recorded my insights for you to share with you.

We produce in Germany

As you know, we produce all our products in Germany. However, we source some of the raw materials from around the world, as of course not all of them grow here in Germany. For example, aloe vera from controlled organic cultivation in Mexico. For a better and more transparent insight, we have listed the respective ingredients plus plain text for each product in the store. There you will also find the exact organic content and natural content of the ingredients. Nevertheless, it is our top priority to obtain our raw materials from traceable and sustainable sources and to manufacture our products in Germany. For example, we use Damask rose from controlled organic cultivation in Bulgaria for our Rosewater .

We pay attention to our raw materials

Our core criteria when deciding on the procurement of raw materials are their sustainability and certification. In other words, we look for sustainable production and processing of the raw materials. For our baby line, we have also made sure that we do not use any raw materials that are produced on the basis of palm oil. The solid products, the Hyaluronic Acid Night Cream, the body lotion, the AHA peeling , the aloe vera gel and the Aloe Vera Spray as well as the Rosewater are also palm oil-free. We use RSPO-certified palm oil for the other products. This palm oil certificate was launched by the WWF in 2011 to make palm oil production more sustainable. Incidentally, RSPO stands for "Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil." You can still find this palm oil in some of our products, as it is omnipresent on the raw materials market and we were initially very dependent on certain raw materials being available in certain quantities. However, we are in the process of gradually converting the products in question. Incidentally, other oils are not better than palm oil per se. This is because they are less productive than the oil palm. The problem is rather the amount of vegetable oils that are generally used. As a result of this and the adverse growing conditions, palm oil has fallen into disrepute.

We get our own laboratory

But back to production. All the ingredients come together and are mixed in production. In the pictures you can see the filling of the baby products. The printed glass bottles go through the filling process and are packed in folding boxes and stacked on pallets. A small proportion of the filled products then make their way back to our laboratory for final approval. Incidentally, we have some exciting news to share with you in the coming months. We are currently setting up our own laboratory together with our product developer Monika. This will soon give us the opportunity to give you even more insights into the development process, take you with us and let you test products yourself. We are really excited to be able to integrate you even more and let you participate in product development.

In the final step, the products make their way to our warehouse, from where they then make their way to your home.

More insights to follow! Until then, we will of course answer all your questions in the comments below the article, by email or directly via social media @Junglück.
