combination skin - Triggers and 5 care tips for radiant skin

by Leonie Poppe

In this article, I would like to talk to you about one of the most common skin types - combination skin.

Yes, many of us struggle with these somewhat tricky skin conditions. However, that doesn't mean that we can't balance out our skin and make it glow again with a few tips.

Find out in this article:

  1. How does combination skin develop, what are the triggers and how can I recognize them?
  2. The right care for combination skin - 5 tips
  3. What helps against spots at combination skin?

1. how does combination skin develop, what are the triggers and how can I recognize them?

There are actually only three basic skin types. The normal, balanced skin type, dry skin and oily skin. However, it is often the case that several of these skin types coincide in one person, which logically results in combination skin.

Trigger

There are - unsurprisingly - many different triggers for this. The good old hormones can be to blame, but so can stress, your genes or the wrong cosmetics that have thrown your skin out of balance.

Diet and the consumption of nicotine and alcohol can also play a certain role.

Characteristics

  • Mixture of two skin types
  • Oily T-zone
  • dry cheeks

In most cases, combination skin manifests itself in a rather oily T-zone and a dry cheek and eye area. This is mainly due to the fact that there are usually more sebaceous glands on the forehead, nose and chin, which work diligently and produce a lot of sebum. As a result, this area is often prone to blemishes and clogged pores. The pores Treat become enlarged, blackheads and an oily sheen appear.

The cheek area, which tends to have fewer sebaceous glands, dries out accordingly, becomes flaky and can often be tight. So while too much sebum is produced in one area, there is not enough in the other.

Of course, combination skin can also be sensitive or show the first signs of ageing at the same time.

The dry areas are usually more sensitive to external influences than the oilier areas. This is because the skin barrier in dry areas can be fragile.

2. proper care of combination skin - 5 tips

These circumstances make it difficult to find the right skincare and meet the different needs of the skin.

Even if it is time-consuming, it is worth looking at the areas individually and selecting the care accordingly. But of course there are also products that are beneficial for the entire face.

What points you should generally bear in mind:

  • prefer to use fewer ingredients and pH-neutral products
  • mild formulations, rich in antioxidants → the skin can regenerate, soothe
  • no silicones, mineral oils → they cannot be absorbed by the skin and seal it off
  • protect your skin from the sun's rays with a sufficient SPF of at least 30

Our combination skin set - gives each of your skin zones the care it needs.

In the next few steps, I will explain how you can use the products from our combination skin set and give you additional product tips that you can use to supplement the set. So you'll be wonderfully prepared all year round.

Step 1: The right cleanser - Don't let it dry out!

When using cleanser , it is very important to ensure that the already dry cheek area does not lose even more lipids and moisture. Due to the oily T-zone, we tend to want to dry it out, but this is rather counterproductive here (and if I'm honest, always). The drier the skin becomes in these areas, the more it wants to compensate for this dryness by producing sebum. So the more you try to dry out the oily areas, the more shine will follow. You should avoid eye makeup removers that dry out the skin in particular, as the skin here is especially thin and sensitive.

A mild cleanser, such as with our Cleansing Gel, is therefore best suited for the different skin areas. But also the Cleansing Oil is also wonderfully suitable for a gentle but thorough cleanser. With both products, you can see which one you like better in terms of apply and feel.

For PM! The regular use of a AHA peeling can be very helpful for combination skin as it creates a wonderful balance. It gently removes dead skin cells, moisturizes and supports the skin barrier. The Salicylic Acid contained in our AHA peeling also combats impurities and thus brings the skin back into balance. Please note - don't forget to use sun screen during the day.

Step 4: Vitamin C serum - Protective and anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin C has an effect anti-inflammatory, redness and pigmentation spots visibly diminish and blemishes or spots heal faster. Use a few drops for your entire face. You should only avoid the eye area. Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you can choose between Vitamin C serum Intensive or Sensitive.

Step 5: Retinal cream & hyaluronic creams - Targeted care for AM and PM

The drier areas of combination skin not only long for moisture, but also for richness. The cream texture reduces dry patches and prevents blemishes at the same time. However, you should use a different cream in the morning.

Step 6: Squalane - Extra richness

Squalane is very similar in structure to the skin's own sebum, i.e. the skin's "oil". It is therefore wonderfully absorbed by the skin, penetrates deep into the skin layers and binds the Actives that your routine contains. As it signals to the skin that it has sufficient sebum, the Squalane balances out sebum production, which in combination with this routine takes the shine off the oily areas of the combination skin .

Especially in winter, you should make sure that your skincare routine keeps your skin in balance, as the change from warm and dry heating air to freezing cold can be very stressful for combination skin in particular. So if you notice that your skin craves more nourishment in places during the winter months, give it a treat. For example, in the form of rosehip seed oilwhich nourishes and heals damaged, roughened areas and restores the skin's protective barrier. In this way, you can prevent your skin from losing even more moisture and ensure that you get through the season with a winter glow.

3. what helps against spots at combination skin?

The routine that we illustrate with our set and the additional product tips is intended to balance your combination skin and bring it back into balance. This is because blemishes can occur more frequently, especially in oily areas. Of course, we at JUNGLÜCK know that nobody is happy about spots, but we still want to draw attention to the fact that they are completely normal skin symptoms that occur to a greater or lesser extent on everyone. Our aim is to get to the bottom of the causes of pimples, because they are, after all, small injuries to the skin. And they need to be cared for. That's why we have developed our Spot cream , which specifically treats pimples so that the skin heals faster and can resume its natural protective function.

The zinc oxide it contains has an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect, inhibits the inflammatory reaction and helps pimples to subside more quickly. The blue camomile oil supports the healing process of your skin.

The healing properties of Camomile have been known for centuries. It is one of the oldest and most recommended medicinal herbs. The two main active ingredients in blue chamomile oil are bisabolol and chamazulene. Bisabolol, like zinc oxide, also has an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect and also protects your skin from free radicals thanks to its antioxidant effect. The active ingredient chamazulene gives chamomile oil its characteristic blue color and soothes irritation and redness and supports the skin in the healing process.

Please let me know what has helped you best so far with your combination skin , or what hasn't worked at all. I look forward to hearing from you and your skin story.

Take care
